Timorese Strategic Investment Minister Xanana Gusmão pays a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (07/10/2016)

　Prime Minister Shinzo Abe welcomed Mr. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, the Minister Mentor and Minister of Planning Strategic Investment, as the founding father of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. Prime Minister Abe took note of progress made in the Dili ferry terminal reconstruction and an agreement reached on the visit of a Japanese naval vessel to Timor-Leste.

　Prime Minister Shinzo Abe indicated Japan`s support for Timor-Leste`s ASEAN membership and for the development of Timorese human resources. Minister Gusmão noted the valuable role played by JICA in bridging the two nations and welcomed Japanese private investment. Prime Minister Abe and Minister Gusmão agreed to the importance of peaceful resolution of maritime disputes by international law.
