Professor Sukehiro Hasegawa delivered a lecture to international students from Afghanistan, Indonesia, Mongolia and other Asian countries on heritage of peace doctrines at Doshisha University in Kyoto. Students belonged to a seminar class administered by Professor Eiji Oyamada.
In the lecture, he explained how the understanding of requirements for preventing conflicts and building peace traversed through the last two decades starting with the Agendas for Peace, Development and Democratization put forward by UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali in 1992 , UNDP Human Security, ICISS report “R2P,” “Human Security Now” 2003, the High Level Panel report on “New Threats, Challenges and Change 2003,” Secretary-General Kofi Annan`s report “In Larger Freedom,” “Delivering as One 2006,” “Capstone Doctrine 2007” and “Ghenno report 2012.” He also touched upon the panel on peace operations headed by former President José Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste.
